Bio (of sorts)
I started writing and editing professionally in the mid-1990s, after stints in construction, restaurants, and bookstores. I also ...
- Helped launch the award-winning website, LIFE.com; worked at Condé Nast for a minute and at Time Inc. for a number of years; was managing editor for the pioneering culture and tech 'zine, Feed; and held positions at a number of other sites and publications, most of which were really good.
- Have contributed to the New York Times, the Washington Post, Salon, Smithsonian, the Daily Beast, the Los Angeles Review of Books, the Columbia Journalism Review, CNN.com, and other outlets, online and off.
- Wrote the Foreword to Joseph Szabo's wonderful book of photos from the 1970s and '80s, Hometown (2020); told the life story of a remarkable Long Island businessman, inventor, and problem-solver named Jim Miller in Nothing Bad Ever Happens (2017); and edited the anthologies Covering the Bases and Gluttony.
I live in New York City with my wife, our daughter, and a rascally dog named Pippin.
